You’re in for a unique adventure when you start container gardening. Container gardening offers endless possibilities for new and creative designs. With a little bit of creativity, you’ll see your imagination run wild and you’ll find yourself wondering how you never thought of container gardening before. With a simple plan, you can start container gardening today and here are some of your new designs:
Plant a garden in a pot. Use Styrofoam to fully fill the containers half way up. This makes it easy to move the plants around and gives good drainage. Add your favorite plant! If you want to plant a big plant that takes up the entire pot, dig it up before you plant it in the bottom of the container. Big plants can root easily and you don’t want them competing with your other plants.
Water your plants in a jar. Buy a small clear jar with a pump handle. Fill the container with water and put your plants inside. Turn on the water and watch your plants grow! The first time you do this, it will feel strange, but it’s fun and you learn a thing or two about your plants.
Use the heck out of those flowers! Flower pots can actually hold a lot of water, so you can have several plants in a single pot. You can have one or two plants in the top and three or four in the middle. All the space is taken up by the flowers and you’ll soon realize how much room you have in your container gardening.
If you have lots of trees and flowers, why not plant them in a container? Place a trellis of some kind at the bottom of your container. The best thing about this is that when you’re done with your plants, they all get an extra layer of soil to grow in! Use the heck out of those soil packets too!
If your home has a window where you can let some light in, that’s great! Get creative and use your huge flower pots to fill in that window. Plant flowers next to each other and then fill up the rest of the pot with soil. You’ve just created an elegant window display!
When container gardening, don’t forget the flowers. While plants are very important for your garden, so are the soil and the rocks. You should never use rocks without first making sure they’re thoroughly sterilized. That’s just good old fashioned sterilization!
As you can see, there are so many things you can do with huge flower pots and containers. Don’t let anything stop you from being creative. Just because your back yard has concrete walls doesn’t mean you can’t plant something there. If you have a huge back yard and it’s just begging to be used, go for it. Your yard will thank you for it.
There’s nothing like a flower bed. Plant a bunch of colorful plants that complement each other. Use the colors of your plants to accent your home. Don’t worry if you’re not very good at planning. Most plants grow really well in containers. Once you get them started, you won’t even know you’re doing it.
You can also use your flowerbed as a planter. Place a few flowering plants on either side and hang baskets or pots from them. This is also a great idea for container gardening. Just line the bottom of the container with a drop cloth or plant hanger and place the plants on top.
Of course, you can’t talk about container gardening without mentioning potpourri. This is simply a mixture of dried flower petals and soil. You can make your own mixture or buy potpourri that is specially made for container plants. Many flower pots come with their own special potpourri so be sure to include this ingredient when shopping for pots.
For many gardeners, the biggest challenge is keeping their plants healthy. They struggle with bugs and diseases but container plants are often at the mercy of Mother Nature. When diseases attack, it’s usually too late. container gardening gives you plenty of time to get the right treatment and keep your plants healthy.
